Day 1 - The Magic Kingdom

Main street and Cinderella's castle at night.
The first time you walk into Disney World it should be through the gates of the Magic Kingdom. The first time I went I was a child so I probably had a different experience than someone who goes as an adult the first time. But for me it is still an exciting feeling walking into Main Street and seeing the castle.(The picture here was taken at closing and it shows all the crowds of people as they leave the park. This was in the off season, so if you've never been brace yourself for crowds and lines because there will be lines)
The first "land" you enter when coming into the park (the park is borken up into themed lands)is Main Street U.S.A. It is like a main street of a small town around the early 1900s, when Walt Disney was a child. He wanted to recreated the feel of the town he lived in when he was a child so this is an idealized version. So there is a train station and the srteet is lined with shops like a barber shop, a confectionary, a theater, etc. But most of the buildings are filled with gift shops so as people leave the park they can try to buy a token of the disney magic.
We usually head to our favorite ride, Pirates of the Carribean. It was one of the original rides at Disney Land in CA, long before Johnny Depp was Captain Jack Sparrow, so it is nothing like the movie but there are many references in the movie from the ride. Here is me and my bro Will outside the ride. The little pirate parrot above us moves and talks and sings the Pirates theme song, "Yo ho Yo ho a pirate's life for me"

We usually eat lunch at La Cantina, a place that serves tacos, nachos, empanadas, and melt-in-your-mouth churros, but since it is the off season it was closed. Disappointedly we went to Casey's, a baseball themed eatery on Main street to eat foot long hot dogs and french fries. They were good, a little too much meat for me but good. We then walked over to the ice cream shop and ate ice cream cones. For dinner we had reservations at The Crystal Palace. A large buffet-style restaurant on Main Street. It is a character meal, so while you eat Winnie the Pooh and friends will come to your table and say hey and let you get all the pics you want.

The Cryastal Palace has this wonderful spoon bread. It is soft and creamy on the inside with corn and red peppers and a crust on the top. I could eat just that and be happy. It also has pesto salmon, roast chicken, mussels, pulled pork, peel and eat shrimp, salads, roasted turkey breast, and prime rib, which they carve as you want it. For sides there is broccoli sauteed with garlic, kale with onion and bacon, jasmine rice, mashed potatoes, spoon bread, and other stuff that I can't remember now, there is also a dessert bar with creme brulee, tiramisu, and various cakes, cookies and ice cream. It is really good quality food, all-you-can-eat and with the charachters it is worth the $29.95 a pop, non alcoholic drinks included. But be sure to eat it at the end of the day because you will be too full afterwards to ride any more rides. Plus if you time it right the area outside the Crystal Palace is a good spot for the nightly fireworks show so you can have dinner and then go outside and watch the fireworks.
